Elevate Ensemble: Stravinsky Legacy

  • San Francisco Conservatory of Music 50 Oak Street San Francisco, CA, 94102 United States (map)

Stravinsky’s quirky, offbeat Soldier’s Tale has been inspiring composers and audiences alike since its 1918 premiere. Come hear the lilting melodies of the original along with two pieces that pay tribute!

We’ll be presenting the world premiere of a new piece by Elevate composer-in-residence Julie Barwick that picks up the story 33 years after the end of the original Soldier’s Tale. We’ll also be performing Chris Cerrone’s Recovering, which freezes a moment from the Stravinsky to create something new and wonderful. Also on the program is Gordon Stout’s Astral Dance, with a mystical theme that parallels Soldier’s Tale.

Concert program:

  • Gordon Stout – Astral Dance
  • Julie Barwick – Thirty-Three Years (World Premiere)
  • Christopher Cerrone – Recovering
  • Stravinsky – L’histoire du soldat (Soldier’s Tale) Concert Suite
